She wants to escape the prison of her marriage—but after decades of mind games, does she have the strength to break free?
Fifty-three, long married, and in the throes of menopause, Laura is dismayed. She’s always tolerated her husband’s belittling insults and manipulation—but at least she got some peace when he was working. Now he’s at home all the time, and her life is becoming a nightmare. And when she runs into an ex-boyfriend, their renewed friendship awakens the spirit and self-confidence she thought was long gone.
But when Laura learns some startling things about her spouse, she learns that an abuser can be dangerous when deprived of his fun. Just how far is Laura prepared to go to get her life back?

What a read! I couldn’t put this book down! Within pages I was completely engrossed in Laura’s life and I just needed to see where we were going.
I thought the storyline was well written, even though there were times when I felt like I wanted to shout at the book and give Laura a shake to help ‘wake her up’!
I liked meeting the characters of the ‘book club’ and Laura’s family sound like I want an invite over to a party at their house! Her husbands' family - absolutely not thank you!
I must say, considering the book club ladies are also Laura’s closest friends they aren’t exactly the best cheerleaders for her, however I think they also have a lot going on!
I am super pleased that a chance meeting with Sam helps us to see a happier Laura & love seeing her change. I must say that I was NOT expecting the ending that we got! I was like woah - where did that she’s up from! It was however, absolutely brilliant - right up to the last sentence!
